From Block to Bait

Shown: specialty Purple Rattlesnake Vamp

A finished lure is many steps beyond its genesis as a rough Southern Red Cedar log. Sections are hand split, bandsawed into blanks, turned, carved and sanded. Weight is added to some for balance, and others get an internal rattle. After the stainless hardware is set, the lure gets a tough coat of sealer. Next come sanding, priming, foiling, painting, detailing, signing, top coating and, finally, fitting with 2X strong cad-tinned Mustad treble hooks.
